HYPNOTHERAPY IN HERTFORDSHIRE - HYPNOTHERAPY, COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY AND COUNSELLING
Hypnotherapy In Hertfordshire

Hypnotherapy is one of the most validated therapies available today. Recognised by the British Medical Association, (BMA), it is recognized as an orthodox treatment and not merely a complimentary practice. It has proven to be a safe and effective treatment that can help a wide range of problems in just a few hours of therapy.

There are many misconceptions about hypnosis that have been impressed on us by books, movies, cartoons and television programs. Hypnosis, therefore, has been associated in the minds of people with control and the super natural. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Hypnotherapy is a natural state of consciousness that we have all been in before. There is no real feeling to being in the hypnotic state. You can liken it to the way you feel when your head is on your pillow at night just before you go off to sleep where you feel relaxed and comfortable but still aware of what is happening around you.

Although the word sleep is used to describe the state, the patient is far from being asleep. A person in hypnosis is aware of his surroundings in a detached sort of way and is more receptive to acceptable suggestions. The mind is concentrated on the suggestions and pays very little attention to anything else (much like being deeply involved in a movie or reading a book. Hypnotherapy FAQ’s.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

The state of hypnosis is brought about by inducing a natural state of relaxation, where you are in a heightened state of awareness and where your mind is receptive to making positive permanent change.

Hypnotherapy provides rapid and effective results because it deals where the problem is based...the subconscious mind without the interference of conscious reasoning.

During each session, your body and mind is relaxed while your thoughts
become more focused and attentive to resolving the issues effecting you. Like other relaxation techniques, hypnotherapy decreases blood pressure and heart rate, and alters certain types of brain wave activity. In this relaxed state, you will feel very at ease physically yet fully aware mentally. It works to help you fix the problem at its root…your subconscious mind. Because your subconscious mind has created your presenting symptoms, then it makes sense that they need to be fixed at this subconscious level.

Two types of therapy are used:

  1. Suggestion Therapy

Suggestion therapy is where positive suggestions are made to a person under hypnosis to achieve a desired effect.

As these suggestions are made to a person wanting these improvements, their subconscious minds will readily accept them, causing the suggestions to take root in the subconscious, thus implementing the required changes. It is not possible for negative suggestions to take root in this way as they are not desired by the recipient and will therefore be rejected immediately.

I use suggestion therapy when it is apparent that there is no anxiety linked to your condition. If anxiety is present I may use hypnoanalysis, (See Below) to uncover the root of the problem then continue with suggestion therapy to conclude your therapy. Suggestion therapy helps with performance improvement, motivation for weight loss, goal setting,  nail biting, smoking cessation, exam nerves, and certain phobia's ...conditions we classify as quite minor which are appropriate and receptive to treatment by suggestion alone.

  2.    Hypnoanalysis

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave,
and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a
serious impact on daily life.

People often experience a general state of worry or fear before confronting something challenging such as a test, examination, recital, or interview. These feelings are easily justified and considered normal. Anxiety is considered a problem when symptoms interfere with a person's ability to sleep or otherwise function. Generally speaking, anxiety occurs when a reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected in a situation.

If you suffer from any form of anxiety then hypnoanalysis
may be required to help release the emotion
associated with your symptoms.

Analytical Hypnotherapy Hypnoanalysis (Analytical therapy)

If you are suffering with anxiety based issues analytical hypnotherapy also known as hypnoanalysis finds and releases the cause of your problem and removing your symptoms once and for all. This type of analytical therapy is extremely effective in resolving deep rooted anxiety and emotional problems. You can, on conclusion of your therapy, look forward to living life the way in which you wish to live because once the originating event and the emotions associated with your present condition are released the symptoms then disperse.

There are two types of hypno-analytical uncovering techniques:

Regression to cause therapy
When a client presents with a very specific symptom it is possible, very quickly, to find and release the feeling and emotion involved. This therapy is called regression to cause and is indicated particularly with a client who is able to function quite normally and satisfactorily except in one area of their life.

Free association
The use of this method is indicated when a client presents with multiple symptoms which tend to affect most parts of their life. There is often general anxiety, low self- esteem, low self-confidence, possibly panic attacks (random and triggered), and/or psychosexual difficulty, low libido etc.

The advantages of using free association are that it is not necessary for you, the client, to follow any specific train of thought, (in fact, there will quite often be three or four in evidence at any one time); thus you will 'clear' up all sorts of childhood unfinished business during therapy in addition to resolving your main symptom resulting in increased self confidence and lowered stress levels.

As each clients symptoms are individual then so is the therapy I provide. Hypnotherapy, along with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the use of counselling skills I am perfectly placed to be able to help, very effectively, with an array of emotional issues and disorders.
